Monday and we're on the way again - it's quite a way to the next town so we find some breakfast here before we leave.
Through El Paso and on to Las Cruces where we get on I25. Lunch at Arbey's then shopping at - would you guess WalMart - and a health food store and we're good to go heading north. Home to our place in T or C about 5p.
Another great road trip.

]]>First stop the Cemetery where parents, and other relatives are buried. A little trouble finding some of the graves, but finally accomplish that task.
On the main drag, we looked at Teina's grandfather's old shoe shop. A vacant storefront now but lots of memories for Roy and Madge. Past the church they attended growing up and on to the old home. Nothing like when they lived there, but the owner let us look around the yard and Roy pointed out what used to be.
Down by the Rodeo Grounds and the place where a aunt got thrown around but a tornado which stripped her, destroyed the house and a new tractor. A little drive around town and it's time to head back to Mineral Wells and Elaine's car

]]>Short drive to the street and no problem finding the number and it's for sure his place when Teina spots a "Got Baja" sticker on the pickup in the driveway.
He's out back so call him on the phone and here he is. Shows us around his house and yard and says his wife is registering her son in high school and should be back soon. We share Baja stories of places and people and adventures. Head over to a Mex restaurant for lunch. Delia's held up with the registration, so Steve takes a tostada home for her.
A couple of enjoyable hours spent with them and it's time to go back. We find a barbecue place in Granbury and we tuck in for the night.

]]>Wed. now so another day of visiting, listening to Roy's stories etc. Teresa's second goal for this trip is a Black Diamond watermelon. Never heard of it but it's high on her mind. So in the afternoon we head to out to visit a old Dr. Pepper plant that still has all the old equipment. Still making it with "Pure Cane Sugar" like the old days. It's equipment can't handle the "Non-returnable" bottles, so the make a run when they collect enough of the deposit ones. Nice tour, then we're on down the road in search of watermelon. A Peach and Watermelon Festival is happing a few miles away so we check it out. Arrive at 5p and nothing going on, tour the area in the car as there are no pedestrians yet - and no watermelons. Drive to town and ask a local cop where to find them and he said "a gold pickup parked after the "S" curve. Well guess we're early for the parade - lawn chairs along the street and people waiting. Found the pickup but no Black Diamonds. Got rained out but might have another crop in Sept. Decided we couldn't wait for that, so bought some other kind and headed back to Granbury for dinner at Roy's 2nd favorite Mex restaurant.
Have a full day tomorrow so. time to get rested.

]]>Stopped at Perryman to visit the Museum of the Plains - a great spot with several buildings full of history of this area and the west. Arrowheads to autos to planes to drilling equipment to dishes. Great spot to spend a couple hours.
On to Canadian and a drive to the campground we had stayed at. Nice lake with several fisherpeople then on the way back to town saw 2 separate flocks of wild turkeys.
Not much accommodation's for the night so drove on to Pampa a town of about 15,000 so they have a few motels. This one has the best free WiFi I've had anywhere. Streamed vidio with NO delays. Great - but guess I better pack up and head down the road again. To where, that's what we're asking each other. Need to be in Granbury tomorrow afternoon so where will we go tonight -
Keep tuned and we'll let you know.
(camera's not in the room, so will add photos tomorrow)

]]>We walked around the old part of downtown Dalhart, pop. a little over 7,000. Found the XIT museum across from the 75 year old courthouse. Spent a easy 1 1/2 hours looking at all the exhibits of the old ranch and the area.
Time to get to the rodeo grounds - more tractor pulls - amazing what these old tractors can do. The John Deere's with the slow pop-pop-pop of their 2 cylinder diesel engine as the lug down. One was from the 30's but most from the 50's.

It's about 4:30 so we head over to the serving lines - 12 lines to feed all the people - we find a short one and get out plates loaded up.

The area is becoming big in the dairy industry lately, so one of the companies set up a tent with tables you could sit at and gave away milk, cheese and ice cream bars.

We sat around a while listening to music then head back to town - going to get a soft ice cream cone for Teina but Dairy Queen's machine broken down so scratch that. Decide to go to the melodrama at the old theater, but had mis-read the sign - no evening performance today, so back to the motel and the computers. Then World Series of Poker comes on and we're set for the night.
Tomorrow - ? - somewhere else.

]]>Get to Tucumcari and grab a room at about the first motel in town. It's 4pm and we head to the Collage's Museum of Dinosaurs. Great displays, then dinner at the other end of town - ate here a couple years ago when we were here.

Back to the motel and try a little online stuff but pretty slow.

About 4:30 we decide it's time to eat so head up to where they're service the pork chop dinner. Probably about 10 big grills going and 3 serving lines. Two boneless pork chops, potato and green beans, a tortilla and that at meal.

Listen to a little music, then back to the tractor pulls for the heavyweights - 10,000 - 12,000 lb. tractors. Finish about 6"30 and back to the motel - time to rest up for another big day tomorrow.
